Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Statistics 

According to national surveys, eighteen percent of all women, or one in six, and 3% of all men surveyed have experienced a completed or attempted rape [including sodomy], as a child and/or an adult.

Seven of every eight rapes are experienced by women and girls between the ages of 12 -34.

· Accurate data on the prevalence of rape is difficult to obtain because the majority of rape victims do not report the rape to police. Victims assaulted by intimate partners are less likely to report.

· Women are significantly more likely than men to be injured during a rape.  

· Thirty-two percent of women and 16% of men reported being injured while being raped. In Miami-Dade County more than 1/3 of sexual assaults reported in 2005 involved a dangerous weapon.
