Reproductive Justice

In Miami-Dade County, 53% of teens are sexually active. Over 43% of former foster girls in Florida have at least one child by their 20th birthday. Daughters of teen mothers are more likely to become teen mothers and the sons of teen mothers have a higher than average rate of being arrested and jailed. Half of single female heads of households in Miami-Dade County earn $18,500 or less per year. To help young women become responsible members of the community we must:

  • Increase access to comprehensive sexuality education
  • Increase leadership, advocacy and communication skills of young women
  • Provide parenting education and academic services for young mothers
  • Educate community members, policymakers, and the media on priority health issues identified by young women
